What is Durat?
Durat is a solid surface material manufactured from recycled plastics. Durat is one of the oldest solid surface manufacturers in Europe, originating in Finland in 1990 to combine seamless design with sustainability to create beautiful worktops. Due to the recycled nature of the material, Durat solid surfaces have a three-dimensional nature which adds a unique sense of depth to the surface.
Why is it so popular?
Sustainability is at the forefront
Durat is particularly appealing to many due to the product's fully sustainable nature. The material contains on average 30% recycled plastic, collected from Finland and Sweden. This post-industrial material is granulated into small speckles to be added to the material, giving Durat its distinct look. The Durat material is also 100% recyclable, meaning that during the manufacturing process, waste can be kept to a minimum; any product waste created during the process can easily be reused in production. Durat is committed to creating a solid surface that takes no toll on the environment, supporting a circular economy, and they use hydropower in their manufacturing facility, a 100% renewable electricity.
Wide colour palette
Durat is a particularly popular solid surface to use thanks to its increased colour palette. Durat stocks over 200 colour options, including a large range of classic RAL colours. Not only do they provide their standard colours, but Durat is also able to create custom colours according to your specifications, making the colour palette practically unlimited. Durat surfaces are speckled by design, offering a unique texture to your solid surface, and showcasing the vibrant blend of colour.
Increased hygiene
Durat is a non-porous surface, meaning not only is it stain resistant, but it also prevents harmful bacteria from bedding into the material. Skilled solid surface installers can create near seamless joins, further avoiding the possibility of a bacteria build-up. The smooth surface means cleaning is simple; household detergents and a soft cloth are more than enough and no harsh scrubbing is needed at any stage.
Easy to repair
Like most solid surfaces, Durat is resistant to heat, but extreme temperature changes could lead to damage like cracking or surface scorching. If this does happen, however, the surface is easily repaired. Small scratches can be gently sanded over, ensuring the glossy surface is maintained. For cracks a Durat glue mixed with speckles can be used as a filler for the gaps, mimicking the final look of the surface. Repairs are easy, but should always be carried out by a specialist. Durat solid surface material comes with a 15-year guarantee, and the gloss finish is easily renewed with slight sanding.
As a solid surface, Durat has been a popular choice for more than 20 years. When you chose Durat, not only are you choosing a sustainable option, but you are combining unique design with practical use.
